9 more guides open up as you reach deeper floors.
The Programming Director publishes each floor's reference when that floor enters the broadcast. Study the ones that are up. The Network does not consider unpreparedness to be the Network's responsibility.
Sector 4 opens on a power plant that never stopped running. Strip lighting, service corridors, a floor plan drawn for people who were paid to be here. The Network calls it the shallow end and means it as reassurance.
It is the only floor where the paperwork still holds.
The Greenbelt is a preserve — an actual outdoors, bolted under a power plant, kept in perpetuity so that something wild might always be kept. There is an orchard. There is a river. There is a sun that does not move.
The grounds equipment is still running its rounds. Nobody has told it the groundskeepers are gone, and it has not asked.
Runners who reach it report that the air is very good and that something in the deadfall has learned the sound of a person walking.
Below the preserve, the Stack starts keeping people.
The Bazaar is the first floor with a population — traders, fixers, standing arrangements, and a rate for everything including you. The Network is pleased to confirm that commerce continues at depth and reminds runners that a floor with somebody to sell to is also a floor with somebody to sell you.
The Block is housing. Was housing.
Whatever lived here had walls, doors, neighbours and a way of doing things, and some of that is still in force. The Network advises arriving runners that the building is occupied, that occupancy is not the same as welcome, and that the lease terms were not written with visitors in mind.
The Refinery is where the Stack stops pretending to be places and starts being process.
Something is still being made down here at volume, on a schedule, to a standard. The Network has not disclosed what, and considers the question outside the scope of the broadcast. Heat, noise, and throughput are confirmed.
